Our centre is actively involved in many
research trials into the latest glaucoma medications. These
include the latest prostaglandin analogue group of anti glaucoma
medications.

In cases of Narrow Angle or Closed Angle
Glaucoma, laser therapy may be necessary.
Our Laser Centre has 6 lasers to cater
for cases that need laser therapy. We routinely perform
peripheral laser iridotomies, iridoplasties or pupilloplasties
for cases of narrow angles and angle closure glaucomas.

We also handle complex glaucoma cases
that require surgery. Our centre performs in excess of 750
glaucoma operations annually.
Common surgical procedures done at SNEC
include:
- Trabeculectomies with Mitomycin C
- Combined Phaco-Trabeculectomies with
Antimetabolites
- Seton implants eg Molteno, Baerveldt
and Admed implants.
- Trans Scleral Cyclo Photocoagulation
- Goniotomies and Trabeculotomies for
paediatric glaucomas

Our Pediatric Glaucoma Consultant manages
cases of congenital and childhood glaucoma.

Together with our Orthoptists and Optometrists,
we also cater for visual rehabilitation of the child and counseling
for the family.
