FELLOWSHIP IN GENERAL OPHTHALMOLOGY
To provide an in-depth exposure to the fields of Comprehensive Ophthalmology
and Cataract Surgery.
One year
Evaluation and management of patients with a variety of medical
and surgical disorders of the eyes and visual system.
Surgical training will be provided in the following aspects:
- Extracapsular Cataract Extraction
(ECCE) with lens implantation
- Phacoemulsification cataract
surgery with emphasis on sutureless scleral and clear corneal
incisions with foldable intraocular lens implantation
- Topical anesthesia
- Cataract refractive surgery
techniques eg. Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK), Laser
In-situ Keratomileusis (LASIK).

- MMed (Opthalmology), FRCS or
its equivalent and would have completed 2 years of advanced
training rotations in general ophthalmology.
- Must be experienced in most
aspects of clinical ophthalmology.
- Should have participated actively
in teaching, research with an acceptable record of publication.
- A good command of English

FELLOWSHIP IN VITREO-RETINA MEDICINE AND SURGERY
To produce mature, experienced, and knowledgeable vitreo-retinal
surgeons who are capable of advanced level competency in the diagnosis
and management of patients with retinal and vitreous diseases.
One year
- Clinical teaching which includes patient
care, examination, investigation, treatment, and discussion.
- Involvement in case presentations,
clinical conferences, and journal clubs.
- Participation in Grand rounds and
daily ward reviews.
- Participation in teaching of residents
and/or medical students.
- Participation in ongoing clinical
research and quality assurance audit programmes of the Division.
- Exposure to broad variety of retinal
and vitreous disorders. This experience should include macular
diseases, retinal vascular disease, oncology, degenerative
hereditary disease and infectious retinal disease.
- The principles of fluorescein angiography,
including supervised independent interpretation of angiograms.
- Hands-on experience with FFA as well
as ICG Angiography with state-of-the-art equipment.
- Perform electrophysiology testing,
CT scan & MRI interpretations.
- Training in both vitreous and retinal
surgery

The fellow would be competent in basic corneal transplantation techniques
and other forms of corneal and anterior segment surgery, as well
as excimer laser photorefractive and phototherapeutic keratectomy.

To produce a competent specialist in the diagnosis and management
of patients of this discipline.

FELLOWSHIP IN AESTHETIC-EYEPLASTIC
The aesthetic-eyeplastic fellowship is tailored to provide a 12-month
training programme at an advanced level. He or she will then be
competent and skillful enough in treatment of common eyeplastic
diseases and managing ophthalmic patients requiring aesthetic restoration.
One year
- Assist in running the ophthalmic plastic
and eyeplastic service
- Assist or perform surgical cases
- Routine ward rounds, grand rounds
and reviewing all cases admitted for treatment, investigation
and post-operative care are expected
- Participate in the teaching of residents,
medical students, and nursing staff
- Participate actively in management
of all ophthalmic plastic emergencies in addition to the
management of the aesthetic cases
- Participate in CME and all teaching
programmes and journal club
- Will be required to produce a paper
pertaining to aesthetic-eyeplastic surgery and another paper
in lid surgery for presentation and publications during
the 12-month fellowship.
- Assist and participate in quality
assurance audit programme for the cosmetic cases
- Fellows will be required to do a research
project esp. in Oriental aesthetic-eyeplastic surgery and
assist the supervisor in conducting teaching courses.
- Training in the following areas:
- All reconstructive eyelid surgery
- Blepharoplasty, laser and periorbital
rejuvenation procedures
- Forehead/mid face surgery
- Ptosis, entropion/ectropion surgery
- Common lacrimal drainage surgery
(DCR plus silicone intubation)
- Simple orbitotomy and orbital
biopsy
- Repair of lid trauma, canalicular
injury and orbital wall fracture
- Endoscopic ophthalmic plastic
surgery
